Rob Hardwicke President Awakening Skin Care

Just want to introduce myself: I’m Rob Hardwicke, the President and Product Master of Awakening Skin Care. The goal of this blog is to be a participatory voice on issues that affect us all when it comes to skin care.

All of us have skin (a profound observation!). All of us are living longer and longer (or at least some of us). Therefore, since we’ll be occupying this skin of ours for a good many years, we might as well make the most of it. This means taking care of our skin.

Taking care of one’s skin (also known as “saving one’s skin” — depending on who you’re talking to) is not just a matter of buying the right products (although it’s definitely better than buying the wrong products, of which there are many). Good skin is a matter of intention. We need to intend to be healthy. We need to intend to eat the right foods, intend to expose our bodies in the right ways, intend to “operate” our bodies so that the machinery doesn’t rust out by the 40th year. Yes, great skin can be a gift of grace for someone who has no intention at all of doing anything right, and that great skin might last a hundred years, to boot.

But for the rest of us, healthy skin needs to go hand-in-hand with healthy living. And while UNhealthy living might, at times at least, be a lot more fun, it’ll get us in the long run. Smoking as a teen can mean leather-for-skin as an adult. The heavy intake of high-octane/high alcohol beverages can mean a bulbous, red vein-streaked nose as an adult (if you’re in to old movies, just take a look at W.C. Fields — if ever there were an early warning system for an untimely demise, it was that nose!).

So proper food nutrition and healthy habits are essential pieces of the “good skin” puzzle. But there also is nutrition for the skin that is available through “topical” avenues. “Topical” pertains to things that we apply to the skin. You can eat lots of foods rich in Vitamin E, for example, and that will help skin health through “internal” channels. That’s not “topical.” But skin lotions, skin creams, skin masques, shampoos, conditioners and the vast array of other cosmetic and personal care products are.

Thanks largely to the Baby Boomer generation (who continue to grow long-of-tooth but have the personal moolah to do something about it), we are seeing the rise of retail organizations (such as Whole Foods Markets) who are mission-driven to make our lives healthier and our skin better. As more and more “premium” skin care products come onto the market, it is easier to take better care of the skin through topic means.

Reading ingredients is an important part of any strategy to improve and then maintain good skin health. Ingredients that contain natural minerals is an even more effective strategy. Awakening Skin Care is a pioneer in the field of mineral therapy in skin care.

Yet all minerals are not created equal.

Their effect on the physiological makeup of the skin varies greatly, and in some cases there are almost no benefits. So although mineral skin care and mineral cosmetics are hot right now, it’s important to know exactly what you’re getting. Some mineral skin care products do nothing more than sit on the surface of the skin — something akin to a life guard’s white nose coated with zinc oxide. Some “mineral products” really aren’t “mineral” anything. For example, “mineral oil” is a petrochemical — and a cheap one at that. It sits on the surface of the skin as a barrier, and while it can do some small amount of good, it is probably one of the last things that you want to slather on your body since it is all “oil” and no “mineral”.

One of our missions at Awakening is to provide naturally mineral-rich formulations that do great things for skin health. We isolate two key minerals which we believe are the most efficacious for skin health, and then combine those minerals with a range of rare essentials oils and botanical extracts. This results in ultra-potent skin care products that are unlike anything else on the market today.

The hallmark of Awakening’s formulas is the “Mineral Hydration Factor™”. It’s a proprietary blend of potassium and magnesium from the Dead Sea, which provides a level of hydration and healing for skin that’s based on the human body’s own natural building blocks. To put it simply, the Mineral Hydration Fact gives Nature a helping hand to keep skin healthy and happy.

As I said, all minerals are not created equal. Nor are the ways in which minerals are used for personal care purposes. Awakening works hard to make sure that product effectiveness always exceeds product hype! And much of what we have learned over the years in making skin care products lets us weigh in on issues involving skin care that are being discussed right now all over the world.

Awakening Mineral Therapies has been hand-crafting unique Dead Sea mineral skin care products for over 15 years. For more information about this and other natural mineral-based skin care remedies, visit Awakening Skin Care at: www.awakeningskincare.com
